If what TMZ.com is reporting is true, then the bruised but beloved late night talk show don, Conan O’Brien, will be walking away from his bloody war with NBC with just under $35 million. TMZ’s sources claim that NBC will also pay severance to Conan’s employees (many of whom left behind their lives in New York to join him on The Tonight Show in LA).
He is allegedly agreeing to not compete with NBC’s late night talk show lineup by not doing any shows on tv until September (whether or not that includes the internet is not yet known). Conan will also have to leave behind the fruits of his comedic brilliance — Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Masturbating Bear (themselves institutions that NBC will benefit from monetarily for years to come).
There also seems to be a stipulation placed on the money he’s to receive if, for example he gets a contract with FOX. The deal isn’t done and, as we know, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. But it seems from all of the insider reports that this is likely very close (if not exactly) what the deal between Conan and NBC will be.
