Jon Stewart I was born with an adult head and a tiny body. Like a Peanuts character.

Oprah I finally realized that being grateful to my body was key to giving more love to myself.

Dr. Adams and his silent co-host Mr. Potato Head

Dr. Adams and his silent co-host Mr. Potato Head

I never thought a talk show could scare the hell out of me.  But a mere moments into the opening credits for web talk show “Plastic Surgery Talk” and I’m convinced that the creepy-looking host (Dr. William P. Adams, Jr. MD, a plastic surgeon) is looking back at me through my laptop screen (just watch the video and you’ll see what I mean).

What’s worse is that the opening credits have me convinced that he and his creepiness is multiplying (no doubt hatching in pods all across America).  But wait.  That’s only the beginning of it.  The opening segment of the show finds Dr. Adams sitting stiffly on top a desk with a computer-generated backdrop gives him the effect of being suspended in a pool of saline.  If I ever got the opportunity to interview Dr. Adams, the first thing I’d ask him is, “Dude, what’s up with your set?”  And the next question would be, “I want to talk to Mr. Potato head.  Can you give him a message for me?”

Dr. Adams has an unusual sidekick.  Even odder than the opening credits and saline-suspended background is the “Mr. Potato Head” sitting prominently on the desk next to Dr. Adams through the entire half hour show.  Mr. Potato (himself a victim of plastic surgery – “remake my face kids”) faces the guest and the camera (a presence Dr. Adams never even mentions).  Mr. Potato head holds court like some sort of plastic surgery Yoda.  Could he be the real brains behind this operation?

The pilot episode (below) features as a guest plastic surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Kinsley, MD who discusses and demonstrates a kit she created called the Natrelle Pre-Consultation Kit (a new product that lets women wear a pair of breast implants in their bra at home for several days to help them decide if breast augmentation is for them — where was this kit when I was in high school and unbearably flat-chested?). Dr. Kinsley really should consider renaming the kit “Boobs in a Box” (it’s all in the marketing baby!).

The format and show on the whole is actually pretty good and, though it’s a half hour (which feels like an eternity online), it feels shorter because of the structure of the show.  It combines professional interviews with “patient’s perspective” interviews and “man on the street” interviews.  Dr. Adams gives “boobs in a box” to women to “test drive” with interesting results.

The cheesey and creepy factor aside, I love this show!  Dr. Adams might have a stalker/serial killer vibe about him (he’s not doing himself any favors having Mr. Potato Head as a co-host), but the show is campy, hysterical, yet educational too and he has a dry sense of humor that catches his guests off guard (a plus for a talk show host).
